Video clips of Tuesday's tax hearings

Posted

This week's Advocate contains detailed coverage about the ongoing discussion regarding the potential raising of the city's restaurant tax from 2 to 3 percent. Papers just arrived in house and will be delivered to stores soon!

The increase is needed, officials say, to help parks and recreation. The parks and rec dept. recently presented the city with a document outlining $5.2 million in wants and needs, ranging from new asphalt for the walking trails at Easy Walker and Botts parks, to repairs of the tennis courts at Easy Walker to routine maintenance of dept. facilities.

Mayor Al Botts has said the other entities that benefit frrom the tax also have needs that are not being met.

Two hearings were held on Tuesday in regard to the matter in which about 45 people attended (combined).

You will find coverage of both in the Advocate along with stories about additional hearings that have now been set on the matter. In addition, provides stats on parks/restaurants visits.

In the meantime, we have shared two videos clips from yesterday's discussion.
