Stay out of danger zone! Grilling safety tips!

Posted

From Montgomery County Health Dept:
Grilling season is here!

Stay out of the danger zone (40°F - 140°F) by keeping those hot foods hot and those cold foods on ice.

Bacteria, such as E. coli and Salmonella, grow most rapidly in the range of temperatures between 40 °F and 140 °F, doubling in number in as little as 20 minutes. This range of temperatures is often called the "Danger Zone" and can cause moderate to severe illness.

When you're cooking out, or cooking in general, keep hot foods in an approved warmer, such as a crockpot or chafing dish. Keep cold foods on ice or in the fridge if you have access to one close by. Refrigerate promptly when the meal is finished!
