Shelter program will provide dog houses to local residents

Posted

The Montgomery County Animal Shelter is about to launch the CARE Initiative that will provide dog houses to 31 local residents.

CARE stands for Canine Adequate Residential Environment. It is part of a partnership with the Humane World for Animals.

“We’re humbled and appreciative of the partnership with the Humane World for Animals,” shelter director Adam Grubb told the Advocate.

Grubb said the goal of the program is to assist in providing adequate housing for dogs that primarily reside outside.

Todd Blevins, state director for Humane World for Animals, said at a recent Fiscal Court meeting the local shelter was one of three shelters in the state to be chosen to participate in the program.

The county is receiving $5,000 for the program. There will be an official check presentation at the regular Fiscal Court meeting 6 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 17, Grubb said.

Blevins said the outstanding work at the shelter was one of the reasons the county was chosen.

As part of the program, Grubb said the shelter will provide 31 large breed dog houses with a plastic flap and straw to qualifying applicants.

There is an application process that will include home visits by a shelter employee. Scan the QR code on the photo for application.

The program is only available to Montgomery County residents, Grubb said.
