The community's public servants and others gathered Friday morning at the Montgomery County Courthouse to pay tribute to those who perished on 9/11 on the 25th anniversary of terrorist attacks on our nation.
Mt. Sterling Mayor Al Botts encouraged the crowd to remember how they felt after the tragedy in which a nation came together in unity.
He noted mothers, fathers, grandparents, grandsons and granddaughters were all lost during the attacks.
The event included employees from city and county offices, firefighters, police and the sheriff's office, public works employees, parks and recreation dept. officials and other community members.
Botts thanked the group for their service to the community.
"I love all of you," he said.
Five members of those in attendance read quotes from famous individuals about commitment to the nation.
County Clerk Chris Cockrell led the gathering in prayer.
Botts led the gathering in a one minute moment of silence at 8:46 a.m. when the first plane struck the World Trade Center as those in attendance joined hands together.
The group of more than 50 people joined in unison to singing "God Bless America."
Judge-Executive Chris Haddix also made some brief remarks at the conclusion of the service, in which he thanked the community public servants for their service and asked the public to always remember 9/11 and the individuals who gave their lives.
