A Mt. Sterling man was killed Tuesday night in a single-vehicle accident in Powell County, according to Powell County Coroner Megan Wells-Curtis.
Luke Pierce, 19, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to authorities.
The accident occurred about 7:30 p.m. at the intersection of Morris Creek Road and Hwy. 213, she said.
Pierce was driving a pickup when he reportedly hydroplaned and went over an embankment, Wells-Curtis said.
She said weather conditions were a factor.
According to a release from the Kentucky State Police at Richmond, Pierce was traveling northbound along Morris Creek Road in Powell County when he reportedly lost control of his vehicle causing it to leave the roadway traveling over an embankment and striking a tree.
Pierce was the only passenger in the vehicle, Wells-Curtis said.
The KSP was assisted on scene by the Powell County Sheriff's Office, Powell County Fire and EMS and Powell County Coroner, according to a release.
The collision remains under investigation by Trooper Austin Miller.
The Advocate will have additional details next week.
