The Advocate has obtained the uniform citation concerning the incident at McNabb Middle Tuesday, in which a man is facing charges after allegedly being intoxicated with a loaded handgun on school property.

Michael Phillip Rutledge, 23, of Jeffersonville, is charged with unlawful possession of a weapon on school property, possession of drug paraphernalia and alcohol intoxication in a public place, first offense.

The citation, filed by School Resource Officer Mike Asberry, states Rutledge showed up at McNabb to reportedly visit a teacher and upon contact Asberry claims he could smell a strong odor of an intoxicating substance on his person.

The alleged incident occurred at 8:27 a.m., according to the citation.

After further investigation, the citation claims Rutledge was allegedly found to be in possession of firearm on his person along with some drug paraphernalia.

Rutledge also allegedly had some small bottles of Fireball in his right pants pocket, the citation claims.

The gun was allegedly located on his left ankle tucked inside his boot, the citation also claims.

Montgomery County Schools Police reportedly told another media outlet the suspect arrived on motorcycle and that the suspect allegedly told authorities he often carries a firearm and didn't think about it when he entered school property.

Montgomery County Schools issued a statement noting "At no point did the individual enter the school building."

The district thanked the alert administrative team  and the quick responding SRO's.

The incident occurred during drop-off for the day.
