Jackie Dewayne Sterling, 66

Posted

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Jackie Dewayne Sterling, 66, who left this world Thursday, Aug. 28, 2025.

Born Nov. 26, 1958, in Lexington, he was the son of the late Minor and Beulah Barnes Sterling. He was a cherished husband, father, brother, and friend, whose life was marked by a profound love for family, community, and sports.  Growing up in Lexington, he was a member of the Greater Liberty Baptist Church and cultivated his faith at a young age.  He graduated from Bryan Station High School in 1976, where he was actively involved in ROTC.  His pursuit of knowledge led him to the University of Kentucky, where he spent a couple of years before carving out a successful career.  He dedicated 20 years of his life to Nestle as a machine operator, where he was celebrated for his strong work ethic and camaraderie among colleagues.  He had a deep love for sports, passionately rooting for the University of Kentucky’s basketball and football teams, Ohio State University football, and the Cincinnati Reds.  He could often be found watching games and sharing his enthusiasm with loved ones.  Known for his infectious laughter and playful spirit, he was a people person who never met a stranger.  His joy in life was amplified by the company of his wife, Sheilah, with whom he shared 37 wonderful years of marriage.  Together, they created a family filled with love, laughter, and unforgettable memories.  He enjoyed capturing life’s moments and sharing them on social media, often surprising friends with his infamous photobombs. His love for travel opened new adventures, further enriching his life and those around him.  His warmth, humor, and kindness will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

He leaves behind his loving wife, Sheilah Sterling; children, Jack Sterling and Ashley Sterling; sister, Alyce Emerson (Rev. Wendell); aunt, Jean Whitely; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and a close-knit community of friends and extended family who will forever treasure their time with him.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by aunts, Margaret “Pudden” Rice, Margurite Brookins, and Cynthia Jackson; and uncles, Earl Barnes, Hugh Sterling, and Robert Sterling.

Memorial service was conducted Wednesday, Sept. 3, at Evergreen Baptist Church with Pastor Jerry Jones Sr. officiating.

As we remember Jackie, let us celebrate his spirit, his laughter, and the love he so freely gave.  May he find peace, and may his memory continue to inspire us to live life fully, with joy and compassion.
