Gloria Jean Lawson Murphy, 81, of Mt. Sterling, died Monday, Dec. 1, 2025, at The Spires at Berry College-Senior Living Center in Rome, Ga.
Born April 10, 1944, in Frenchburg, she was the daughter of the late Floyd C. Lawson Jr. and Irene Amburgey. She attended the Church of Christ in Camargo and was legal aide for over 42 years for Bill Clay and Clay, Williamson and Lane, Attorneys at Law. She dearly loved watching her grandson grow into manhood.
Survivors include her husband, Paul Murphy Jr.; son, Alan Hughes (Jennifer) of Rome, Ga.; grandson, Evan Hughes of Rome, Ga.; step son, Paul Murphy III (Robbin) of Mt. Sterling; and brother, Gary Lawson (Patty) of Mt. Sterling.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a son, Edward Brent Hughes.
A private family service will be held with Rev. Artie Amburgey officiating.
