The Mt. Sterling Montgomery County Community Fund, a permanent charitable affiliate of Blue Grass Community Foundation (BGCF), is kicking off a Back-to-School Drive with a $1,000 seed grant for clear backpacks and school supplies for Montgomery County Public Schools. The Community Fund’s Board of Advisors launched the fundraiser after the school system announced it lacked the funds to buy student supplies this year.
The Mt. Sterling Montgomery County Community Fund Back-to-School Drive is accepting monetary donations from individuals, businesses, community organizations, nonprofits and anyone else who wants to contribute.
“The Mt. Sterling Montgomery County Community Fund is a new endeavor in our community,” said Scott Holley, chair of the Mt. Sterling Montgomery County Community Fund Board of Advisors. “Our goal is to build up the Community Fund so we can give grants to support local needs when they arise. We also work as a community convener. Even when we can’t cover the full cost of what’s needed, we can set up the mechanisms and gather the people who can.”
“We know raising funds in only a couple of weeks is a challenge,” said Art Walker III, founding board member of the Mt. Sterling Montgomery County Community Fund. “But with the $1,000 seed grant from the Mt. Sterling Montgomery County Community Fund and the generosity of our local businesses and community members, we believe we can accomplish the goal and help support students and families across Montgomery County.”
