Another local hopes to win ‘America’s Favorite Student’

Posted

Montgomery County has another student vying to become America’s Favorite Student.

Six-year-old Parker Segura lives in Mt. Sterling and attends CTS (Christian Traditional School) in Camargo.

She’s made it to the quarter-final rounds in the competition. Voting for the quarter-finals is going on now through 7 p.m. (PDT) May 7.

At press time, Parker was in eighth place in her group.

The top competitors from each group finals and wildcard round were divided into quarterfinals groups. Voting will determine the top quarterfinalist in each group who then advances to semi-finals.

The grand prize winner of the 2026 America’s Favorite Student competition will be featured in Reader’s Digest, get to tour the Planetary Society with Bill Nye The Science Guy in Pasadena, Calif., and win $20,000.

Parker’s mother, Haley, says since Parker was 2 she wanted to “do homework.”

“We bought her a desk and workbooks. She is a little girl with so much curiosity and a passion in school and works hard. She is so dedicated to making sure she is doing good in school,” her mother told the Advocate. “She is passionate about math and how the world is.”

Parker’s bio for the competition says she is “clever, a great reader and impresses everyone with her mind.”

You can vote once daily for Parker free at https://americasfavstudent.org/2026/parker-23

You can also vote by donation. Donations support The Planetary Society, a nonprofit, and its mission to inspire curiosity and help shape the future of space exploration for everyone.

Semifinals begin May 8-May 14 and finals are May 15-May 21.

The grand prize winner will be announced on or before June 5.

The Advocate featured a story about another student last week, Jaxon Barnes, who was also vying for America’s Favorite Student.

Jaxon, a Montgomery County High School sophomore, finished fourth in group finals, which ended April 23.
