William “Bill” Henry McKenna III, 72, a lifelong resident of Mt. Sterling, died Wednesday, March 11, 2026, at St. Joseph Mount Sterling Hospital.
Born July 15, 1953, in Mt. Sterling, he was the son of the late Dr. William and Mary Margaret Myers McKenna. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, whose life was defined by his faith, service, integrity and deep roots in Montgomery County. He served as President of Community Trust Bank for many years where he genuinely cared for the people he worked with and served. Beyond his career, he was engaged in many areas of community service including the city council and Rotary Club. He had strong ties to and a passion for strengthening the agricultural community. He was also well known on the golf course. While he enjoyed the competition of the sport, the fun and fellowship meant more to him. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include his loving wife of 49 years, Elaine Richards McKenna; daughter, Blair (Austin) Lanzarone of Weatherford, Texas; grandson, Mac Lanzarone; two brothers, Mark (Cindy) McKenna of Mt. Sterling and Dave (Lesia) McKenna of Hillsboro, Ohio; sister, Katy (Tommy) Breeze of Lexington; and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial service was conducted Monday, March 16 at the First Presbyterian Church.
