Salvation Army: Consider donating, bell-ringing

Posted

The Salvation Army expects help to be greatly needed this year.

According to a release provided by the Salvation Army, it notes, “As most people are aware, the needs will be great this year with the recent government shutdown and an economy that is still in recovery. The local Salvation Army is run completely by volunteers and the money collected during the holidays is basically the only funds available to service all of the needs for the following calendar year.”

The release adds, “High utility bills, temporary housing needs and food insecurity are a difficult thing to go through any time of the year, but the cold months are particularly hard. Would you or your business or organization thoughtfully consider contributing toward the cause?”

Barry Frazier, Mt. Sterling market president for Community Trust, says, “You can leave a generous donation in the buckets where bell-ringers are, or for your convenience you can drop off a check made out to Salvation Army at Community Trust Bank in the night drop box or with a teller in the drive-thru. And also consider volunteering as a bell ringer (usually on Thursdays-Saturdays after Thanksgiving at Walmart or Kroger),” Frazier added.

Those interested in volunteering can call 859-585-6003 to schedule. Individuals, businesses, churches, retirees and civic organizations are all welcome and needed.

For those simply dropping change in the buckets, the Salvation Army suggests including your children and grandchildren.

“It’s a great way to model the importance of generosity. To kick off the giving season, Community Trust Bank is giving $1,000 to the local Salvation Army. Perhaps your organization might accept the challenge to make a generous donation of any amount. Your gift might be the lifeline someone needs in a difficult time. Let’s all support the Salvation Army ...,” Frazier said.

Frazier’s mother, Phyllis, has overseen local Salvation Army efforts here for a number of years.
