Howard Clay “Pecos” Brooks, 87, departed this life, Saturday, April 25, 2026, at Baptist Health in Lexington, following a long illness.
He was given the name “Pecos” by his closest childhood friends. He was a longtime resident of Mt. Sterling, and a faithful member of Rolling Hills Church of Christ.
He and Barbara Mae Garrett Brooks were married for 44 years. He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife; three daughters, Aneidra Brooks-Smith and Tonya Brooks, both of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Aisha Brooks; two step daughters, Cartrec Garrett and Elisa Garrett, both of Mt. Sterling; a stepson, David Wright Jr. of Mt. Sterling; 19 grandchildren, whom he loved deeply, as well as several great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends; Barbara Brooks, widow of his brother, John Brooks; and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Annie Davis Brooks; siblings, Walter Burns, Raymond Burns, David W. Burns, John Brooks, Ann White and Mary Owens.
Service will be conducted at noon, Saturday, May 2, at Rolling Church of Christ with Bro. Dan Murphy and Bro. Jerry Carmichael officiating. Visitation will be 10 a.m.-noon, Saturday. Burial will be in Olive Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations in Howard’s memory to Rolling Hills Church of Christ, 125 Rolling Hills Dr., Mt. Sterling, Ky., 40353.
