Spring football is officially in full swing under new head coach Joe Chirico, ushering in a new era filled with energy, optimism and a renewed sense of purpose around the program. With an entirely new coaching staff in place, the focus this spring has been on laying a strong foundation—installing systems, emphasizing discipline and building relationships that will carry into the fall.
The roster also features a number of new student-athletes, adding depth and competition across multiple positions. Combined with returning players, the mix has created a competitive and spirited practice environment where athletes are working to earn roles and establish themselves early. Coaches have placed a strong emphasis on fundamentals, conditioning and accountability, setting the tone for what they hope will become the identity of this team.
As practices continue over the next couple of weeks, the progress made during these early sessions will begin to take shape. The spring schedule will culminate with the annual Steak and Bean Bowl, a long-standing tradition that offers the first glimpse of the team in a game-like setting. For Coach Chirico and his staff, it will serve as an important checkpoint—measuring growth, evaluating talent and building momentum heading into the offseason.
