Filing deadline passes for city, school board races

The filing deadline in non-partisan municipal and school board elections has come to a close. The deadline was June 2.

In Montgomery County that includes races for Mt. Sterling mayor and city council; Camargo mayor and city commission; Jeffersonville mayor and city commissioner; and board of education in Districts 1 and 2.

Incumbent Al Botts was the only candidate to file for Mt. Sterling mayor.

Those filed for the six city council seats are Roger D. Barnes, Crystal Dempsey-Gillum, Laura Grayson, Danielle King, Scott Murphy Steven Trimble and Phillip Tardivo.

Justin Shoemaker is the only candidate filed for Camargo mayor. Current Mayor Clayton Neal did file for re-election and instead made a run for county commissioner. 

Those filed for the four  seats on the Camargo city commission are Melissa Arnett, Felicia Spencer, Sherri Beam and Rachel Williams.

Candidates for Jeffersonville mayor are Robbie Elliott, Anthony Henderson, Everett Dewayne Myers and Brien Tabor. Current Mayor Steve Barnes did not file for reelection.

Among those filed for the four seats on the Jeffersonville city commission are Robbie Davis, Greg Arnett, Timothy Campbell, Joshua Centers, Scott Friend, Ryan Hurt and Steven Osborne.

Candidates for District 1 on the board of education are Carmela Fletcher-Green and Evangel Hernandez. District 2 candidates are Cartrec Darcel Garrett and Emily Settle.

Settle is currently board chair.

Districts 3, 4 and 5 are not on the ballot this year.

Also appearing on the ballot for November are candidates for three seats for soil conservation district supervisor: John A. Gabbard, Danny Montgomery and Linda Webb. 

Following the May primary candidates in other partisan local races this fall include:

• Incumbent Christopher Michael Haddix, a Republican, and Democrat Akeem “Coach” Scott for judge-executive.

• Democrat Floyd Arnold and Republican Jon Kelly Johnson for county commissioner in District 1.

• Republican Billy Stull and Democrat Randall L. Brewer for jailer.

Unopposed candidates include Chris Cockrell, Republican, for county clerk; Republican Keith Craycraft for county attorney; Charles Thomas Parker II, Republican, for sheriff; Democrat Jimmy A. Adams for coroner; Republican Steven Q. Tuttle for property valuation administrator; Republican Jonathan Wayne Bowling for surveyor; Republican William Daniel Carmichael for county commissioner in District 2; Republican Mark Terry for county commissioner in District 3; Democrat Larry Goldie for constable in District 1; Republican James Dylan Highley, Republican for constable in District 2; and Republican Timothy M. Stacy for constable in District 3.

Also unopposed is Republican Mark A. Frazier  for justice of the peace in District 1.

The General Election is Nov. 3.
