Dorothy Edith Lawill Byrd, 81, of Mt. Sterling, died Monday, April 27, 2026, at Clark Regional Hospital, Winchester.
Born Oct. 30, 1944, in Mt. Sterling, she was the daughter of the late George Willous and Stella Vina Yazell Lawill. She loved caring for her family and found a special joy in her grand and great-grandchildren. She was a faithful follower of God and taught Bible class at Howards Mill Church of God and the Christian Assembly of God churches for 54 years.
Survivors include two daughters, Teresa Gayle (Gary) Blevins and Donna Denise (James) Parker, both of Mt. Sterling; a son, Billy Joe “Joey” Byrd Jr. of Mt. Sterling; six granddaughters, Ashley Nicole (Jeremy) Smith, Dorothy Denise Blevins, Rachel Elaine Blevins, Jessica Renee Wells, Megan Jo (Kohl) Faulkner and Caitlyn Grace (Ryan) Miller; a great-granddaughter, Sophia Grace Vance; five great-grandsons, Bentley Masen Smith, Grady Trent Faulker, Miles Edward Faulkner, William Chase Vance and Cody James Miller; and several special nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Billy Joe Byrd Sr.; five brothers, Stanley Lawill, George Lawill Jr., Clayton Lawill, Elgin Lawill and Calbert Lawill; and four sisters, Stella Lawill, Ruby Reed, Julia Willoughby and Pearl Tolson.
Service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 30, at Herald and Stewart Home for Funerals with Pastor Grant Cannoy officiating. Visitation was 5-9 p.m., Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Machpelah Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Kohl Faulkner, Josh Willoughby, Raymond Lawill, Jeremy Smith, Lucas Creech, Spencer Ballard, Ryan Miller and Jeff Yarber.
