They honored the 2007 Montgomery County High School football team Sunday afternoon at the MCHS cafeteria with senior Kaleb Curtis walking away with the Most Valuable Player award.
Curtis, who set a number of school records and was named the Class 5A District Player of the Year, was also named the Most Valuable Offensive Back and the Caswell Prewitt Realty Tiny Jones Leadership Award winner along with earning Academic All-State honorable mention honors.
On a more global scale, 39 players earned letters, including 19 who lettered for the first time.
“After that first season,” Coach Dan Gooch told the crowd, “I told my wife it was going to be a long time coming (success). But thanks to a dedicated coaching staff and a lot of hard work by the players we found success much quicker than I thought possible.”
The Indians, who went from 1-9 in Gooch’s first campaign to 5-6 last year and then 8-4 in 2007, won a playoff game this season for the first time in almost a decade and finished as district runners-up.
The MVP award was voted on by the players while the other awards represented decisions made by Dan Gooch and the members of his coaching staff.
