Donations needed for Arms of Love

Donations are still being sought for gently used and new toys for this year’s Arms of Love event Dec. 20.

“We need all the help we can get,” Tammy Lockridge, of TK’s Gymnastics, said. “We’re really short this year.”

This is the 14th year for the event, which turns TK’s into a large toy store and is meant to help provide Christmas gifts for newborns through teenagers who may otherwise not have a Christmas, Lockridge said.

Last year Arms of Love provided gifts for around 455 children, Lockridge said.

Donations can be dropped off in a brown box outside of TK’s, 112 Brandon Way, Lockridge said, and there are also donation boxes at the elementary schools and local dollar stores.

Monetary donations can also be made to help with the purchase of toys and are tax deductible as Arms of Love is a 501(c)(3) organization.
The deadline for donations is Tuesday, Dec. 18.

An open gym event will be held Sunday, Dec. 16, at TK’s to help raise funds for Arms of Love and The Grinch Foundation. Children are welcome to play in the gym and the Grinch, Adam Allison, will be on hand for pictures from 5-7 p.m. Admission will be $15.

In addition to donations, volunteers are needed to help set-up and to work the event, Lockridge said.

Set-up will begin at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 19, at TK’s.

The event will take place Dec. 20 at 6 p.m. for those attending with children. Children attending will get to shop with an elf (a volunteer age 13 years or older) for their toys, Lockridge said.

Those attending without children can participate in the event at 7 p.m. or when the children are finished, she added.
