Triplett charged for second time with intimidating witness

10/19/2018

By Tom Marshall
Senior Advocate writer

A second charge of intimidating a participant in a legal process has been filed against a Mt. Sterling man already charged with rape, sodomy and kidnapping.

The Montgomery County Grand Jury filed the charge against Ronald Glynn Triplett, 67, when it met Oct. 3. The alleged crime is a class D felony punishable by one to five years imprisonment, if convicted.

The indictment alleges that on Sept. 12 Triplett wrote a harassing and intimidating message on the wall of the Montgomery County Jail to a victim in a pending case against him.

The victim was reportedly a jail trusty at the time.

Triplett was charged previously with the same crime after he allegedly wrote a harassing and intimidating message on the wall of the jail recreation yard on or about Sept. 14.

The incidents involve the same individual, Jailer Eric Jones said. Jones previously said a “keep apart” order involving the pair had bee instituted. He told the Advocate Tuesday that remains in place.

He also said previously that Triplett’s recreation time had been decreased and he was to be observed at all times while in the recreation yard. Other steps were also being taken to keep Triplett more closely monitored.
Triplett is currently charged with the alleged rape and kidnapping of a woman he found walking downtown in 2016. He reportedly took her to a building on East Main Street where she was repeatedly raped.

The alleged crime was reportedly videotaped.

After that alleged crime, another victim was reportedly located and a second rape charge was brought against Triplett, who was apprehended in Michigan. Police reportedly seized a laptop, computers and cameras from the motel room where he was found.

Triplett was once included on the FBI’s Most Wanted List after he allegedly escaped prison in Michigan in the 1980s where he was being held on robbery and attempted murder charges.

An indictment is a formal accusation of a crime, but does not establish guilt:
