Opening of Bark Park Saturday

9/22/2017

By Tom Marshall
Senior Advocate writer

This Saturday there will be a grand opening at the Pribble Bark Park and pet parade leading up to the event.

While the park has been open for a few months now, Saturday’s event is a culmination of all the effort the organization Love of Paws and the Montgomery County Parks and Recreation Dept. have put into getting the park running.

“To us it’s just really exciting,” said Pat Henry, a volunteer with Love of Paws.

People will begin lining up with their dogs behind the health dept. about 12:30 p.m. The parade and events begin at 1 p.m. They will then march along Adena Trail to the Bark Park.

The parade is for dogs only and must meet the guidelines that the Bark Park requires. Adults and children, under parental supervision, are welcome.

Henry said organizers are inviting the public to bring their dogs in costume and children can even bring their favorite stuffed animals.
At the grand opening there will be several other activities. There will be a Smooch a Pooch booth, Paw Print Art, photos with your pet and face painting. Offerings for children include free balloons, stickers, bracelets and necklaces while supplies last. Visitors can also enjoy a $5 hot dog lunch.

The grand opening festivities will take place from 1-4 p.m. The Rainbow Bridge at the park is expected to be complete in time for the event, Henry said.

She said the event promises to be fun for the whole family.
“It’s a fun-filled time where everyone can have a good time,” Henry said.
Love of Paws also has several other events planned this year, she said.
There will once again be the Howl-A-Ween event at the park and a Strut the Mut 5K Walk.

Another new event in the planning stages is a Hillbilly Dinner fundraiser. The dinner is expected to include a country meal with country music to boot, Henry said.
