A suspect from a high-speed pursuit last month in Powell County was arrested Saturday after he reportedly ran from and scuffled with a sheriff’s deputy here.

Timothy John Esteppe, 51, of Jeffersonville, was the subject of an article in last week’s Advocate in which authorities asked for the public’s assistance in locating him.

A caller reported seeing Esteppe Saturday at the Fast Track convenience store in Jeffersonville, Montgomery County Sheriff Fred Shortridge said.
Deputy Jared Garland responded to the call.

When Garland arrived Esteppe was reportedly at the side of the store with a vehicle that had its hood up, Shortridge said.

Esteppe reportedly went to the passenger side of the vehicle and tried to hide before Garland approached him, the sheriff said.

At that point, Esteppe reportedly ran into residential area before Garland used a Taser gun on him, he said.

Esteppe was struck by the Taser, but reportedly pulled the prongs from the Taser wire out and began fighting with Garland, Shortridge said. Garland was finally able to subdue Esteppe.

Authorities searched the vehicle that Esteppe had been spotted with and reportedly located a 9 mm pistol and suspected methamphetamine, Shortridge said.

Esteppe had reportedly made previous threats against law enforcement.
Esteppe was transported to the Montgomery County Regional Jail, where he faces several charges including fleeing or evading police, first-degree (on foot), resisting arrest, third-degree criminal mischief and first-degree possession of a controlled substance, first offense (methamphetamine).
He is also charged with fleeing or evading police, first-degree (motor vehicle) in connection with the previous police pursuit.

Authorities had been trying to locate Esteppe since Aug. 9 when he reportedly fled from a Stanton police officer reaching speeds of more than 115 mph.

Esteppe eventually crashed into a police vehicle in the Calk Lake area and fled into a wooded area on foot, authorities said.

Authorities had been following up on leads as to his whereabouts in the days since without success until Saturday’s call.
