Winchester Road accident results in fatality

3/20/2015

By Tom Marshall
Senior Advocate writer

One person is dead and another seriously injured as result of a head-on collision on Winchester Road Wednesday morning.

Authorities were trying to identify those involved and no names had been released by press time.
The deceased was pronounced dead at the scene by Montgomery County Coroner Jimmy Adams, Sheriff Fred Shortridge said. He was the driver of one of the vehicles.

A female passenger in the deceased’s vehicle was transported by helicopter to the University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center.
The call came in at 7:31 a.m. reporting there was a two-vehicle accident at Autumn Ridge Drive and Winchester Road where one vehicle was on fire and a person entrapped, said Ann Johnson, director at the Montgomery County 911 Center.

Those injured in the accident were traveling west in a Pontiac Sunfire when it collided head-on with a passenger van that was eastbound near Autumn Ridge Drive, Shortridge said.

The van appeared to have crossed over the center line at the time of the accident, the sheriff said. Investigators are trying to determine why the van crossed the line, he said.

That driver of the van suffered only minor wrist injuries, Shortridge said.
An accident reconstruction team from the Clark County Sheriff’s Office was on scene to assist in the investigation.

The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office closed both lanes of Winchester Road in that area as it investigated the crash.

No further details were available at press time. See next week’s Advocate for a followup.
