Fire under investigation

9/12/2014

A fire that destroyed a mobile home in Jeffersonville last Friday is under investigation by the Kentucky State Police.
The fire was reported to the Montgomery County Fire Dept. at 2:20 a.m. on a rental lot on Winiford Court, fire dept. spokesman Dewon Wells said.

The home was described as a complete loss.
The home had been unoccupied by the owners for about a year, Wells said. Owners Julie and Jason Cox now live in Texas.
There was no electric service to the home.

KSP arson investigator Shane Barnes is trying to determine a cause of the fire and is encouraging anyone with information to call 800-27-ARSON or the Morehead Post at 606-784-4127.

It took about 12,000 gallons of water to extinguish the fire, Wells said.
Barnes is also investigating the cause of a fire that destroyed a dormitory at the Frenchburg Job Corps last Friday afternoon.
Preliminary investigation appears to show the cause was accidental, he said.

Residents reported smelling smoke, which was spotted coming from the eves and vents in the attic area. Occupants were evacuated safely.
The building had been undergoing renovation, but it is not clear whether that had anything to do with the fire, Barnes said.
Frenchburg Job Corps has an office in Mt. Sterling and is sometimes involved in projects here.
