Health and wellness survey going out to local businesses

8/29/2014

A survey has been sent out to the local business and industrial community to determine their health and wellness needs.
The surveys are part of a joint effort by the Montgomery County Health Dept., St. Joseph Mt. Sterling Hospital and the Chamber of Comm-erce/Industrial Authority to learn how they can support those needs.
“We are seeking to understand the types of health and wellness programs businesses and industries have in place for their employees, if any,” Jennifer Gulley, the health dept.’s deputy director, said.
“We recognize a lot of business and industry don’t have anything in place,” Gulley added. “Sometimes insurance programs have health and wellness plans employees can participate in.”
For those that don’t, local health officials want to know how they can assist them.
“Employers may be looking for help to implement health and wellness activities but don’t know where to start,” Gulley said. “It gives us an idea of what kind of resources we need to bring to the table to help business and industry in promoting a healthy workforce.
“We’re gathering information to determine what’s needed, what business and industry are looking for and if they’re interested in health and wellness programs,” she added.
Gulley noted that health and wellness programs are important to the success of business and industry.
“If you have a healthier employee they’re less likely to be out sick and more productive when they are there at work,” she said.
The surveys take about 10 minutes to complete. Businesses are asked to return them by the end of August.
