North Bullitt stops 6-game win streak

4/17/2014

Finding ways to win. That’s been the story for the Montgomery County High School softball team in 2014.
After the Lady Indians lost the pitching services of Megan Arrasmith just two games into the current campaign Coach Bart Rison simply had to reassess his team.
It really didn’t take long.
Improved pitching from those next in line, solid defense and hit the softball a whole bunch.
With Arramsith able to play some in the field and bat, despite her absence on the mound, along with a good dose of the three things he mentioned previously, the Lady Indians are off to an 8-3 start as they prepare for key district matchups with Bourbon County and Clark County over the next week.
After winning their first two and then losing their next two without Arrasmith, the Lady Indians came along to put together a six-game winning streak before losing 6-5 to North Bullitt last Saturday in the Vernon Bibb Memorial Classic at Cynthina.
Montgomery County was slated to go against Bourbon County this week and Clark County next week.
As for Arrasmith, she’s swinging the bat well and throwing some off the mound but still appears to be weeks away from being able to head back into action as the ace of the MCHS staff.
Here’s a game-by-game rundown of the Lady Indians’ action this past week:

North Bullitt 6, MCHS 5
Montgomery County missed a scoring opportunity in the sixth inning and the Lady Eagles held on for the win.
North Bullitt also got wins over Clark County and Lexington Catholic at Cynthiana over the weekend.
Montgomery County out-hit North Bullitt 12-9 but stranded six runners over the final fourth innings of the game.
Freshman shortstop Angel Kidd had three hits, including a pair of doubles to lead the Montgomery County attack.
Lilly Setters, Kourtney Parker and Delaney Bromagen had two hits each.
Staci Woodard worked five solid innings on the mound but saw two batters she walked and another she hit with a pitch along with another who reached on an error come around to score.
Angel Kidd worked one scoreless inning of relief.

MCHS 18,
Grant County 2
Kourtney Parker hit a three-run homer while Lilly Setters and Delaney Bromagen each drove in four runs and Kourtney Current also had three runs batted in as the Indians coasted over the Braves in the Vernon Bibb Memorial Showcase.
The Lady Indians failed to score in the first inning and put four runs on the board in the second inning before a 14-run third that ended the game.
Montgomery County batted around twice in the third with Parker leading off with a line out to the shortstop only to come back and belt a three-run homer later in the inning.
Megan Newton and Lilly Setters each had three hits.
Angel Kidd picked up the win on the mound for the Lady Indians.

MCHS 12, Whitesville Trinity 7
Angel Kidd drove in two runs with a pair of doubles and scored twice and Kourtney Parker drove in three runs with a pair of hits as the Lady Indians won their opening game in the Aaron Bibb Memorial Showcase.
Montgomery County opened up a 5-0 lead in the first inning but trailed 7-6 entering the bottom of the sixth when they struck for six runs.
Parker’s two-run double with one out in the sixth proved to be the winning run.
Staci Woodard went the distance on the mound, allowing only one earned run.

MCHS 6,
Bryan Station 3
Megan Arrasmith started in left field, had a perfect day at the plate and delivered a three-run home run in the top of the seventh inning to snap a 3-3 tie and gave Montgomery County a win over the Defenders.
Arrasmith also had two singles and a walk in her other at-bats.
Kourtney Parker also had three hits, Brooke Young drove in two runs with a double and Hunter Scott had a double and scored twice.
Kelley Oaks went the distance on the mound and allowed only five hits to pick up the victory.
Montgomery County trailed 3-1 entering the sixth inning.

MCHS 9, Paris 6
The Lady Hounds made things interesting but the Lady Indians got a big day at the plate from Megan Arrasmith and Kourtney Parker scored four times.
Parker walked twice, was hit by a pitch and singled and came around each time. Arrasmith hit for the cycle with a single in the first, triple in the third, double in the fifth and two-run homer in the seventh inning.
Montgomery County led just 7-6 in the top of the seventh when she gave her team a little breathing room.
Staci Woodard worked the first five innings for Montgomery County to pick up the win and Kelley Oaks recorded the save with two hitless and scoreless innings of relief.
